Senator Chris Dodd and National Service Agency to Announce $2 million for Summer of Service
Washington, D.C. - Senator Christopher Dodd and Patrick Corvington, the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service to announce $2 million in "Summer of Service" grants.
The Learn and Serve America 2010 Summer of Service grants will engage more than four million low-income students in grades 6 through 9 in innovative service-learning programs that address environment and disaster preparedness issues in their community.
Senator Dodd, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Children and Families of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP), will discuss his leadership on service-learning and work to authorize the Summer of Service grants under the new Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.
Dodd will also announce that the Northwestern Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will receive a $50,000 grant to support service-learning programs across the state.
