Connecticut State Police Union endorse Malloy/Wyman

Democratic nominees for Governor and Lt. Governor Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman receive their second endorsement Monday, this time from the Connecticut State Police Union.

In making their endorsement,. union leadership pointed to Malloy and Wyman's "years of experience and demonstrated commitment to working with local law enforcement."

"The truth is, Connecticut can only have safe communities if people have good jobs, fair wages and benefits that allow them to support their families," said Sgt. Andrew Matthews, Union president. "Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman have a proven history of understanding that public safety is a priority for the people of Connecticut. You don't have to look any further than Stamford, where during his tenure Dan helped lower crime by 63 percent, making it one of the safest cities in the country."

"As a former prosecutor and mayor of a large city, I have a deep respect and appreciation for hte role of law enforcement," said Malloy. "In Stamford, so many things wouldn't have been possible if we didn't lower crime and make our city safe. I'm honored to have the support of the Connecticut State Police Union and look forward to partnering with them as Governor."

Malloy added that the work and value of Connecticut's State Police was especially evident now, as the state mourns the loss of Tfc. Kenneth Hall, recently killed in the line of duty.

The Connecticut State Police Union is the exclusive collective bargining representative for Connecticut's State Troopers and Sergeants.

Working families party endorses Malloy/Wyman

Democratic nominees for Governor and Lt. Governor Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman received the endorsement of the Connecticut Working Families party on Monday.

In making their endorsement, Working Families leadership stressed Malloy's "years of experience creating new jobs, expanding access to health care, and improving local education" as well as Wyman's "demonstrated commitment to issues that matter to hard working people throughout Connecticut."

Julie Kushner, co-chair of the Connecticut Working Families Party said that they are proud to support Malloy because we need a Governor who is committed to the issues and the values of middle class working families.

Working Families is an independent party that focuses on the bread and butter economic issues that matter most to working class and middle class families. Because of the endorsement from Working Families, Dan Malloy will be listed on the November ballot twice: on the Democratic line and on the Working Families line.

"My working class upbringing helped shape my values and my priorties every day as Mayor of Stamford for fourteen years, and they'll shape who I am as Governor," said Malloy. "Good jobs, high-quality public schools, access to affordable health care, a fair system of taxes that doesn't overburden the middle class. These ideals form the backbone of the Connecticut I grew up in, and they're what will make Conencticut great once again. I look forward to partnering with the Working Families Party and with families throughout Connecticut as we work to build a better Connecticut in the years ahead."

"Growing up, I watched my father work three jobs just to make ends meet," Nancy Wyman said. "I understand what Connecticut families are going through during these tough economic times. I'm confident that Dan and Iare well prepared to help turn Connecticut around for those families, and for their children."

Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association Endorses Malloy for Governor

The Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut endorsed Democratic nominee for Governor Dan Malloy today.

At a press conference at the Hartford Fire Department's Engine Company 1, UPFFA President S. Carozza, Jr. stressed Malloy's "record of experience and accomplishment as Mayor of Stamford" in making the endorsement.

"It is an honor to tell you this morning that following the unanimous recommendation of the executive board and our membership, the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut heartily endorses Dan Malloy for election to Governor of the great State of Connecticut this November. We did not take this action lightly and gave careful consideration of Mayor Malloy's history of support for our brother and sister Fire Fighters here in Connecticut," Carozza said.

Carozza explained that the UPFFA supports Dan because "he understands the importance of partnering with public safety, and he realizes the role that first responders play in making Connecticut and its individual towns and cities safer and more livable."

In accepting the Fire Fighter's endorsement, Malloy said, "As a former Mayor, I have a firsthand understanding and appreciation for the work of our fire fighters. It's crucially important that the state support these men and women and gives them the resources they need to do their jobs. I'm looking forward to working with them as partners in the years ahead as we build a better and brighter future for Connecticut."

Caligiuri and Murphy in statistical tie

Just released poll numbers show that Sam Caligiuri is well positioned to win in November's election.

Tuesday the Caligiuri Campaign released poll results showing that Republican Sam Caligiuri is a single point behind Chris Murphy. This amounts to a statistical tie. In a head-to-head match-up, 39% of respondents favored Caligiuri while 40% favored Murphy. This represents a huge gain for Caligiuri and a big loss for Murphy, as Murphy was leading 49% to 28% in an October 2009 poll by the same firm.

According to Adam Geller, whose company conducted the poll, when a candidate polls under 50% that "bodes poorly" for the incumbent. Geller said that this change in poll results shows that one incumbent is losing steam while the other is closing the gap.

"This is proof that Chris Murphy's support for Nancy Pelosi's far-left policies is catching up with him, and that my message and record of fiscal conservatisim is resonating. Voters in our District did not want Obamacare, but Chris Murphy wants to take that legislation even further and create a public option. Voters did not want the wall Street bailouts or the so-called stimulus package Murphy voted for, and they do not want the Cap and Trade bill he co-sponsered," said Caligiuri. "I am thrilled that the fiscally responsible policies I am promoting are giving them hope that we can reverse this course and get our economy growing again."

Other key date points from the poll show that:

  • In the hard re-elect question, only 36% believe Chris Murphy has performed his job in Congress well enough to deserve re-election, while 45% think it's time for a new person.
  • In an ominous sign for the party in power, only 29% of voters believe the country is heading in the right direction, while 63% believe things are off on the wrong track.
  • The generic ballot favors Republicans, 41% - 38%. Among unaffiliated voters, the generic Republican leads 38% - 32%.
  • In the "gas pedal/brake pedal" question, 54% prefer a Republican who will oppose Obama and Pelosi, and 36% prefer a Democrat who will support Obama and Pelosi.
